Configuring Konqueror Defaults
When using Linux konqueror is my explorer of choice. I really don't like the gnome explorer application, can't abide it at all. So I immediately install konqueror (if I'm not already using kde). However, konqueror always displays folders using the icon view by default, and I'd rather use the tree view. Here's how you can fix this.
First, we can change to tree view and then save the settings using "Settings->Save View Profile ...". This means that we'll get tree view next time we run konqueror. You can also save the current tabs that are open, so that you'll have a customised start location.
However, as soon as you open a new tab you'll be back to those pesky icons. To fix this, we need to dive into the preferences. Open "Settings->Configure Konqueror" and then in the list on the left select "File Associations". In the panel on the right, select "inode" and then the "directory" sub-heading. There should now be two tabs you can select on the right - "General" and "Embedding". Click on "Embedding" and in the "Services Preference Order" make sure "Tree View" is at the top.
Done!
