AnyRegion Changer

The AnyRegion Changer allows you to alter the Settings.txt file on your Wii.  Normally the user wouldn't have any idea that this file even existed on their Wii.  It stores the region settings and other items that the Wii uses in order to determine language for the system menu, the firmware update to load and the game discs to load (amongst other things).

Changes to this file are permanent, so if you decide to alter it it's highly recommended that you install the Homebrew channel first.  Without this, the only way to run the AnyRegion Changer is via the Twilight hack so if you break your Wii such that your copy of the game won't run then you'll not be able to immediately fix it (there are ways to fix a semi-bricked wii, but if it's fully bricked then you'll need a SaveMii.  This is something that plugs into the memory card slot and requires ordering off the internet).

Check out these links for information about the hack:

To run the hack, there are 2 options:

  • Firstly, via the Twilight Hack.  Take the .dol file from the AnyRegion Changer download and place it in the root directory of your SD card and rename it boot.dol.  Then run the Twilight Hack savegame file in Zelda and it'll boot the AnyRegion Changer.  Note that version 3.4 of the firmware will remove the twilight hack when the Wii reboots.
  • Alternatively, change the extension of the .dol file to .elf.  Create a folder called 'apps' on your SD card and within that folder create a folder called 'AnyRegion Changer'.  Within this folder place the elf file plus the xml and png files.  Use the Homebrew Channel to run the application.  If you install the file browser application in the Homebrew Channel you don't need to place the elf file in a specific location on the SD card like this
